The subject of this post is how to get rid of fruit flies. We're talking millions here, not just a few nasty little critters that fly around the bananas and can be swiped into the kitchen sink with a motion or two. We're talking millions of reproducing fruit flies.
We're talking four mason jars full of fruit flies. They're sitting on an antique piece of furniture in my bedroom, right in front of my porcelain statues, arranged in order of age. The ones that are in the pupae stage next to the writhing mass of little maggots. Without my glasses, they almost look like pieces of rice. Almost. Until you see them move.
Their only redeeming quality is that they can't fly, so theoretically, they should be easier to catch.
I wonder what the microwave would do to them.

So Wrong!
I just attended my first ever real pageant. (Unless, of course, you count Mr. Springville, which I've attended several times, but don't count.) We went because one of Julie's best friends was competing.
So I just have to revisit an old issue: Come on, Folks! Swimsuits?! And yes, they were accessorized with the standard high heels.
The introduction to the swimsuit competition did provide the best line of the night however. They announced that it was to show physical, emotional, and intellectual fitness!
So what are we judging here? Who has the smartest looking legs???? Or which of the girls is most comfortable (therefore most emotionally fit) parading in near nakedness in front of 800 cheering fans????
So wrong!

Soapboxes
A couple of days ago Julie and I were talking about work. (For anyone who doesn't know, she works at the school with me.) And she commented that she's definitely developed some soapboxes in the short time she's worked there. I was delighted! Perhaps I am not the strange creature I imagine myself to be when I read all of your blogs and instead of thinking, "How fun!" I think, "What an enriching environment they are providing! Bet he/she won't have any trouble with scientific notation."
So now that I know that soapboxing is a normal job hazard, can I just give you all kudos for doing a great job of providing enriching environments, adequate grooming, nutritious meals, and lots of love for all your little ones! It makes my heart sing when I read about your routines, your adventures, and most of all--your love!
Here's to all our children being "above average!" (Apologies to Garrison Keller!)
